FAQ
OKM FAQ

Q- What is the difference between an “Associate” and a “Full” membership?

  • Associate Memberships offer flexibility for new residents and residents that are staying in the area for a short while.
    • Access to the pool, tennis courts, social activities and eligibility to join the swim, dive, and tennis teams.
  • Full membership is the best option for residents who plan to use the pool long term.
    • Membership requires a one-time, non-refundable $675 initiation fee.
    • Members are owners of the pool, which allows them to vote on pool board elections, pool referendums, and serve on the Board of Directors.
    • Annual dues, pavilion rental and social events are discounted.
    • The initiation fee pays for itself in just a few years.

Q- I am or was a member of the military. Do I receive a discount?

  • Active Duty Military receive a $50 discount on Associate memberships.
  • Retired Military should choose from Associate or Full Memberships.

Q- Can I get a day pass or a single month membership to the pool?

  • OKM does not offer pay as you go or single month memberships. New to the area? In season move? Please email Membership@OKMpool.com if you are interested in joining and would like to visit the pool.

Q- Can I host a party at the pool?

Q- Do guest passes and snack bar credit roll over from one year to the next?

  • Guest passes and OKM snack bar bucks credit don’t expire.
  • Check your balance here.
  • The front desk and snack bar can also check balances.

Q- How can I buy more guest passes?

Q- How can I buy OKM snack bar bucks?

Q- I am not receiving emails from the pool. What can I do?

Q- How do I join the swim, dive, or tennis team? How much does it cost?

Q- Why do I have to be a pool member to join the swim/dive team?

  • Participation on the swim/dive team requires membership to the pool. This is a requirement by the swim, dive and tennis leagues that the OKM competes in.
  • Since minors cannot join as single members, the interested swimmer must join with a parent as a family membership.

Q- Why do non-swim, dive and tennis families pay the same rates as swim, dive and tennis families when access to the pool and tennis courts are restricted during hosted swim, dive and tennis events?

  • OKM is a community-run pool with a swim, dive and tennis team.
  • OKM Members pay a separate registration fee to participate in swim, dive or tennis.
  • Some of those funds go to upgrades that the entire pool community enjoys, such as new diving boards, canopies, and grills.
  • Our goal is to ensure the swim, dive and tennis calendar of events is posted in advance so membership can make alternative arrangements.
  • If access to the swimming pool is restricted, we offer reciprocity with other area pools and will communicate accordingly.
  • Most pools in the area also have swim teams and follow the same process. We encourage membership to attend home meets and cheer on the teams!

Q- Do I have to live in a specific community to join OKM?

  • OKM is a private recreational facility requiring a membership and is not a public facility.
  • We strive to ensure that all members, prospective members, and guests feel welcome.
  • OKM has been going strong ever since its founding in 1977 on Orion Ct, located near the intersection of Old Keene Mill R. and Lee Chapel Rd.
  • The majority of our members live in neighborhoods that feed Cherry Run ES, White Oaks ES, and Lake Braddock SS, but we also have member families that attend Sangster ES, Orange Hunt ES, Terra Centre ES, West Springfield HS and Robinson SS.

Q- Where are your bylaws?

Q- How much is the cost of labor increasing?

  • Virginia has begun raising the state minimum wage from $7.25 to $15 per hour.
  • In 2021, the minimum wage increased from $7.25 per hour to $9.50 per hour.
  • For 2022, it increased to $11 per hour.
  • That is a 52% increase between 2019 to 2022.
  • In 2023 it is increased again to $12 per hour and by 2026 it will be $15 per hour.
  • These increases make it necessary to adjust our dues.

Q- What is the Membership Refund Opportunity?

  • Beginning with the 2023 summer season dues were raised $50 for Full and Associate Family memberships.
  • Two-Adult and Senior members are exempt as their membership did not increase.
  • Members are given the opportunity to volunteer for:
    • $50 store credit that can be used on any future purchases

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COOPERATION. WE LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER FUN AND SAFE POOL SEASON IN 2024!
